Sarah’s Story
I first started training when I was aged 15 in high school. I had no clue what I was doing, I got a free consult and was shown how to use equipment with my program that was created. I didn’t exactly stick to my program, NEWSFLASH… it was boring!
This in turn led to me ego lifting which by definition means lifting as much weight as you can to build your ego, something that is dangerous without being taught proper form and technique.
I did have some sort of idea though, I had my split days down pat and enjoyed training five days a week and getting noticeably muscular and stronger. I started as a medium size 10 and got down to a size 8. As all teenagers do, I wanted to look like the girls on the covers of magazines!
A year later I ventured into classes like body balance (boring) & Grit (super challenging) and found that I loved the fast pace and use of weights to achieve a killer workout. Grit became my favourite class, bit I also found it wasn’t long enough.
I would smash classes back to back, being the young energetic bunny I was, I frothed it!
The first time I tried banded work, I wasn’t too sure but the next day, I was sore in places I never knew existed. My core was popping, my glutes and hamstrings were tight and my arms were toned. I was bigger than the Year 12 boys in my year. I became addicted.
By the age of 18 I had moved towns and had joined a new gym. Even with three years of experience under my belt I still felt anxious starting at a new gym and getting my bearings. I got a consult and a personal training session to learn about all the new equipment and was taught some new exercises.
I delved more into weight training, cables, barbells, dumbbells and other accessories in the gym to incorporate in my training. I got very lean and was sitting around 60kgs and fit into an extra small size 6. I had developed a great relationship with food and began to run.
By my early 20’s I was training 5-6 days a week, purely weight training and cardio. I had my fitness down packed. During this time I studied and did my Personal Training Certificate IV to share my love of fitness and health.
BOOM!!!
As all good stories need one, don’t worry I didn’t forget the complication to my journey and it sure was a doozy. An unforgettable event but one that binds us all, COVID 19.
I thought I had just landed my dream job, personal training in the perfect gym. Unfortunately though, this big, scary and unknown illness changed life as we know it and I found myself adapting to a new passion, NDIS work!
Throughout Covid, I took a job as a frontline health care worker building another skillset, yet one that still serves me today in the care of people with disabilities and children with special needs. It is part of what has led me to my current job as an SLSO and was a connection I share with someone very important to me.
While Covid upended my career plans it also resulted in some of my most favourite, memorable and surprising times. It was when I met my soon to be husband and we started building a life together.
Fast forward to today and we left our comfort zone in the big smoke and have moved to one of the most remote corners of NSW. We have made the Aussie outback our home in pursuit of my partners dream job as a teacher. This massive risk we took together led to me finding my first job as a personal trainer.
And now after a year with an incredible mentor, I am here ready to take another risk. I am going out on my own, as one of Broken Hills only female personal trainers and I am looking for you, my future clients!
I am a bubbly, friendly, caring and chatty girl who pushes my clients to train hard. Yeah, thats me, the motivational type, the one you can hear shouting across the gym at her clients. Celebrating the wins and evaluating the losses, I will give you plenty of high fives and encouragement.
So if you are looking for a range, if you are ready to take your first steps into the gym, hit that enquiry link and come see what I am about.
